Itanagar: The third edition of the Dibang Winter Festival is set to take place from October 26 in Anini, located in the Dibang Valley district, according to an announcement by the district’s Information and Public Relations Officer (PRO). The two-day event, which started in 2022, focuses on promoting sustainable tourism while celebrating the rich heritage of Idu Mishmi culture through local cuisine, traditional crafts, and more.
A Glimpse into Idu Mishmi Culture
The Dibang Winter Festival is designed to offer visitors an immersive cultural experience. It will feature local cuisine, handloom, and handicrafts from the Idu Mishmi community. In addition to the culinary and craft exhibitions, the event will also include activities such as trekking, cycling, rafting, and village walks. These outdoor experiences will allow tourists to explore the natural beauty of the Dibang Valley while deepening their understanding of the Idu Mishmi way of life.
One of the highlights of the festival is the Igu-Tamro workshop, which offers insights into the ancient practice of shamanism within the Idu Mishmi tradition. This activity promises to provide attendees with a unique cultural perspective that few get to witness.
Workshops and Eco-Friendly Initiatives
The festival will also host workshops on paper and jewellery making, led by the renowned House of Macnok, offering a creative exploration of traditional art forms. Additionally, a session on waste management will be conducted by the AI Green Foundation, reflecting the festival’s emphasis on sustainability.
In line with its eco-friendly goals, the Dibang Winter Festival is committed to reducing plastic waste. The PRO mentioned that the event venue will be completely plastic-free, reinforcing the festival’s mission of environmental preservation. All structures within the venue are being crafted from sustainable materials, such as bamboo and pine. Furthermore, for every ticket sold, a tree will be planted in collaboration with the forest department.
Musical Performances and Entertainment
Visitors can look forward to live performances by Indian Idol contestant Obom Tangu, along with musical acts from the fusion band Asthitva and Owl Jam, ensuring a vibrant and entertaining atmosphere throughout the event.
The festival promises a holistic experience of the Dibang Valley, blending cultural appreciation with environmental awareness. With its mix of local traditions, eco-conscious efforts, and engaging activities, the Dibang Winter Festival is set to offer something for everyone, whether they are adventure enthusiasts, culture seekers, or eco-conscious travelers.
