Alnastazia Watson, a seasoned entrepreneur and community advocate, has set out to revolutionize the way Jamaicans approach healthy eating. With a successful business background, including ownership of The Waxperts Ja, Watson launched her new venture, Clean Cuisine, in 2024. Through this initiative, she aims to provide healthier, all-natural food options, starting with fresh juices, to address a significant gap in the market.
Filling a Market Gap for Healthy Juices
Watson’s journey into the health and wellness industry began through her community work, where she recognized the limited availability of healthy juice options, especially for low-income households. The lack of nutritious choices motivated her to create Clean Cuisine, a brand focused on offering natural and wholesome products.
In April 2024, Watson started with a pilot project, and by November, Clean Cuisine was officially launched. Her mission: to change how Jamaicans view food and inspire a healthier relationship with eating.
“Healthy eating is about more than just trendy foods like salmon and quinoa,” Watson explained in an interview. “I want to change the narrative around food and help Jamaicans understand its role in long-term health and well-being.”
Changing Eating Habits, One Step at a Time
Watson emphasized that Jamaicans traditionally love starchy foods, such as rice and boiled dishes. However, she believes that small, gradual changes can have a significant impact on the nation’s overall health.
“We want to start with our kids. It’s about giving them the right tools to live longer, healthier lives,” Watson stated. “If each one of us makes a change, we can build a healthier country, one bottle at a time.”
A Personal Journey Toward Health and Wellness
Watson’s commitment to Clean Cuisine was further fueled by personal experience. After her mother, Tanya Hines, fell seriously ill due to a pulmonary embolism, Watson realized the deep connection between nutrition and health. During her mother’s recovery, Watson saw firsthand how a proper diet could support healing and long-term health.
Motivated by her mother’s experience, Watson pursued certification as a nutritionist through the International Sports Sciences Association. “This was a wake-up call for me,” she shared. “It became clear that the Jamaican market lacked healthy juice options, and there was an opportunity to fill this gap with high-quality, natural products.”
Clean Cuisine’s Green Machine: A Step Towards Better Health
Clean Cuisine’s flagship product, the Green Machine juice, is now available in local restaurants like Pimento’s at Devon House and Pink Apron. The juice is 100% natural, with no added sugars or preservatives—providing a healthier option for consumers seeking nutrition without compromising on taste.
“We believe in the quality of our ingredients,” Watson said. “With Clean Cuisine, you get the best nature has to offer.”
Looking Ahead: Expanding Beyond Juices
As Clean Cuisine grows, Watson has plans to expand beyond just beverages. In 2025, she hopes to launch a school feeding program, starting with a primary school. A portion of the business’s profits will be directed towards this initiative, aiming to improve nutrition among young children.
“We have the resources to make a difference, even in small ways. Giving back to the community is a core value for us,” Watson explained. “Our ingredients are sourced from local farmers, and we want to support them while providing healthy food options.”
A Vision for the Future of Jamaica’s Health
For Watson, Clean Cuisine is about more than just selling juice—it’s about shifting attitudes toward food and health in Jamaica. She envisions a future where Jamaican children grow up with a healthier relationship to food, and the country’s overall health improves as a result.
“When we think about Clean Cuisine, we think about fuelling the future of Jamaica, especially our young kids,” Watson said. “We’re committed to changing the narrative around food and nutrition for a healthier, stronger nation.”
