Crews have been working throughout the morning to contain a fire at Niko’s Italian Cuisine in Owensboro. The fire broke out early Tuesday morning, around 5 a.m., prompting an immediate response from firefighters.
Firefighters Struggle with Challenging Conditions
Fire officials confirmed that the fire originated in the attic of the building. The metal roof made it difficult for crews to battle the flames effectively. At one point, firefighters became trapped after the ceiling collapsed. Fortunately, they were able to evacuate safely. As of 10 a.m., fire crews were still on-site working to extinguish hot spots.
No Impact on Nearby Owensboro Health Facility
Niko’s Italian Cuisine is located next to the Owensboro Health Specialty Laboratory. Fortunately, there were no individuals inside the health facility when the fire started, and the lab remains unaffected. Health team members and patients can safely access all other buildings in the area.
Cause of the Fire Still Unknown
At this time, the exact cause of the fire is unknown. Fire officials stated that it will take a few days to determine the cause of the incident. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
