Annabelle Martin, a 9-year-old from Russell, has won first place in the prestigious Junior Baking Contest at the 2025 Pennsylvania Farm Show. Competing against 65 talented bakers, Annabelle impressed the judges with her inventive sea salt caramel French macaron bars, earning her a first-place ribbon and a $500 cash prize.
Contest Details and Qualifications
The Pennsylvania Farm Show Junior Baking Contest is open to amateur bakers aged 8 to 18 who reside in Pennsylvania. To enter, contestants must first win the PA Preferred Junior Baking Cookies, Brownies, & Bars contest at an approved Pennsylvania agricultural fair during the previous season. Annabelle earned her spot by excelling in the 2024 fair season, bringing her A-game to the state competition in Harrisburg.
Local Ingredients and Unique Creation
A key component of the competition is the use of local ingredients, and Annabelle met this requirement by using fresh eggs from Ekey’s Marketplace in Warren, Pennsylvania. Her sea salt caramel French macaron bars stood out for their combination of rich flavors, precise technique, and elegant presentation, making them a favorite with the judges.
Annabelle’s Reaction and Future Plans
Upon hearing the news of her victory, Annabelle’s mother, Danielle Martin, recalled her daughter’s reaction: “What’s a 9-year-old to do with $500?” Annabelle herself expressed her pride, saying, “I feel proud that I went against so many other contestants and won.”
The Junior Baking Contest is a highlight of the annual Pennsylvania Farm Show, celebrating the state’s agricultural heritage and encouraging young bakers to pursue their passion for baking.
