The Latin Taste of Charleston festival returned for its fourth year, offering attendees a vibrant experience filled with food, music, and culture from across the globe. Held at Ladson Exchange Park, the event continues to celebrate Latin culture while showcasing a variety of international cuisines.
Organized by Latin Groove Entertainment, the festival draws an average of 3,000 visitors each year, according to founder Luigi Bravo. The event is a celebration of both food and community, providing a platform for different cultures to come together and share their traditions.
A Global Culinary Experience
Festivalgoers had the opportunity to enjoy a diverse range of foods from Uruguay, Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, and Venezuela, as well as offerings from Mediterranean, Jamaican, and American food trucks. “It’s important because you can understand the variety of food,” said Bravo. “With the music, you can understand every culture has its own traditions. For us, it’s a blessing.”
While tasting new foods is the main attraction, the festival also includes a variety of family-friendly activities. These include a car show, an electric train ride for children, and a soccer clinic aimed at teaching kids the fundamentals of the sport.
Dance and Music Showcase Cultural Diversity
In keeping with the festival’s cultural focus, visitors were treated to lively salsa and merengue dance performances. They also had the chance to join in, dancing to the rhythms of Latin music. “You can try and taste, see the dances, and understand a little more about how the community works,” Bravo said. “The people who live here, and definitely, if you like the food, maybe you’re willing to try something new every day in the Lowcountry.”
Looking Ahead to More Events
Looking forward, Bravo encourages attendees to watch for future events hosted by Latin Groove Entertainment. He will be performing as a DJ at the Lowcountry Strawberry Festival at Boone Hall Plantation during the first two weekends of April. He will perform on April 6 and April 13, with exact times yet to be announced.
Additionally, Latin Groove Entertainment is preparing for its 18th Annual Charleston Cinco de Mayo Festival on May 3 at the Hanahan Amphitheatre.
