Karrimanjbekkan An-me Kakadu – A Taste of Kakadu is set to bring the rich flavors and traditions of the Top End to life from May 23 to 25, 2025. This festival celebrates the unique bush tucker of the region and offers visitors an immersive experience in Indigenous food and culture.

A Weekend of Culture and Cuisine

The festival will feature a diverse range of events, showcasing the ancient cuisine of the local Bininj people with contemporary twists. Guests will have the opportunity to explore Kakadu’s natural beauty, Indigenous traditions, and culinary delights throughout the long weekend.

One of the festival’s main highlights is the Kinhkinh – Dinner Under the Stars event on May 24. Renowned chefs Paul ‘Yoga’ Iskov from Fervor and Ben Tyler of Kakadu Kitchen will collaborate to create a four-course meal. The dishes will use seasonal, locally foraged ingredients from Kakadu National Park, giving guests an authentic taste of the region. The evening will also feature live entertainment and local storytelling.

Kakadu Plum Workshop

Chef Yoga will also lead a special workshop focused on the Kakadu Plum, an iconic bush food of the region. Known for its nutritional benefits, the plum is now a key ingredient in foods and medicines worldwide. During the workshop, attendees will learn how to harvest and preserve the Kakadu Plum, and they will leave with a jar of plum preserve to bring a taste of Kakadu home.

Opening Night and Other Activities

The festival kicks off on Friday, May 23, with an opening night celebration at the Bowali Visitor Centre. This event will include traditional dance, music, and a ground oven feast, offering visitors a true cultural experience.

Throughout the weekend, guests can participate in a variety of activities, such as ranger-guided bush tucker walks and ‘croc and canapes’ cruises on the Yellow Water Billabong. There will also be opportunities to meet with traditional owners, who will share their knowledge of bush foods and skills.

Cultural Immersion and Exploration

While the focus is on food, the festival also offers a rich cultural experience. The program includes art exhibitions, music performances, workshops, and guided tours of Kakadu’s famous rock art galleries at Nourlangie and Ubirr. These tours provide visitors with a deeper understanding of Kakadu’s cultural heritage and significance.

This festival promises to be a memorable celebration of Kakadu’s local Bininj cuisine and culture, offering something for everyone to enjoy and learn.
