Founded in 1964 near Barstow, California, the chain is celebrated for its Mexican-inspired menu featuring burritos, quesadillas, nachos, and breakfast items.
In a close second place is In-N-Out Burger, a beloved Southern California institution known for its “Double-Double” burgers and iconic shakes made with real ice cream. The chain, founded in 1948, continues to expand under the leadership of Lynsi Snyder, with plans for future growth into states like Tennessee, New Mexico, and Washington.
USA Today’s rankings also highlight KFC in third place, renowned for its signature fried chicken seasoned with a blend of 11 herbs and spices. Chick-fil-A, previously topping the list, now holds the fourth spot, recognized for its chicken sandwiches and waffle fries.
Rounding out the top five is Hardee’s, celebrated for its thick burgers and made-from-scratch biscuits. The chain, part of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s parent company, operates over 3,000 locations combined across the United States.
