Hong Kong health authorities have halted the sale of a batch of Taiwan-made boba ice cream bars following the discovery of excessive bacterial levels.
On Tuesday, the Centre for Food Safety announced that the affected products were “Brown Sugar Boba Frozen Dessert Bars.” These 80-gram pre-packaged ice cream bars, produced by Shaomei Ice Cream in Taiwan and imported by Circle K Convenience Stores in Hong Kong, have a best-before date of July 26, 2025.
The decision to block the distribution was prompted by bacterial counts in the ice cream exceeding legal safety limits.
