Berlin is preparing to set a new world record with the creation of the largest fruit salad ever made. The ambitious project, spearheaded by Nils Doerwald, chairman of the Berlin Fruchthof on Beusselstrasse, will feature an impressive array of fruits.
The recipe for this colossal fruit salad includes four tons each of apples, watermelons, pineapples, and grapes (divided equally between light and dark varieties), along with one ton of blueberries. The fruits will be meticulously plucked, washed, and chopped to create the final salad.
The Berlin Fruchthof is marking its 75th anniversary with this record-breaking event, scheduled for September 15. The celebration will be open to the public from 10:00 to 18:00, with an expected turnout of 5,000 visitors.
A significant consideration in the planning stages was whether to include bananas in the salad. While bananas could contribute additional weight, their tendency to become mushy and brown presented a challenge. Ultimately, the decision was made to exclude them to maintain the desired texture of the salad.
Once prepared, the giant fruit salad is projected to weigh 10,750 kilograms, surpassing the current record by approximately 400 kilograms. Any surplus will be donated to a local food bank network.
The Fruchthof is calling for volunteers to assist with the preparation of the massive fruit salad. They need 400 individuals to help with the task, and no prior experience is required.
The event promises to be a memorable occasion, celebrating both the Fruchthof’s milestone and Berlin’s commitment to community and innovation.
