by Ella

A recent report from the Seoul Institute reveals a significant decline in fruit consumption among Seoul residents, coupled with a rise in meat intake. According to the findings, fruit consumption has dropped by 33.2% from an average of 182.4 grams per day in 2012 to 121.8 grams in 2021. In contrast, meat consumption increased from 110 grams to 149.1 grams during the same period.

The report, based on data from the National Health and Nutrition Survey spanning from 2012 to 2021, examined dietary habits, nutritional knowledge, and the prevalence of diet-related chronic diseases among Seoul residents.

In addition to the decline in fruit intake, the report highlights reductions in the consumption of other plant-based foods. Grain intake fell from 296.7 grams to 267.1 grams, and vegetable consumption decreased from 278.1 grams to 244.1 grams. These trends may be linked to rising agricultural product prices.
