Hong Kong has announced that it may impose stricter measures on Japanese seafood imports if the nuclear contamination situation at the Fukushima power plant deteriorates. This statement comes a year after the city implemented a ban on aquatic products from 10 Japanese prefectures.
The Environment and Ecology Bureau issued this warning on Saturday, following the government’s decision last week to reject Japanese authorities’ appeals to lift the ban. The restriction, which was introduced in August of the previous year, remains in place due to ongoing concerns about the discharge of treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
