Dr. Candida Rebello of Pennington Biomedical Research Center is leading the MOTIVATE study to investigate how soy-based diets affect blood sugar, mood, and energy levels in adults aged 50 to 75. This 12-week study will explore the impact of soy, particularly soy seeds activated to produce glyceollin—a compound known for enhancing insulin sensitivity and cognition.
Participants with a body mass index of 30 or greater, who report low energy and motivation, will be recruited. They will be provided with meals containing soy or soy-free options, alongside an exercise regimen. The study includes comprehensive health assessments such as insulin sensitivity tests, electrocardiograms, DXA scans, and physical exams. Participants will visit the center three times a week for meals and exercise.
Dr. Rebello aims to determine how incorporating activated soy into a healthy diet influences blood sugar levels, mood, and energy. The study will also examine the broader effects of diet and exercise on metabolic health.
In addition to receiving free meals, participants will be compensated up to $660 for their involvement.
The MOTIVATE study promises to reveal the potential benefits of soy on metabolic health and its impact on mood and energy, contributing to better understanding and management of age-related health challenges.
