The company collaborates with several North East suppliers, including JR Holland in Gateshead for fresh vegetables, Warren Butterworth in Newcastle for premium meats, MSC-approved Taylor Foods in North Shields, and Phil’s Plaice for sustainable seafood. This commitment ensures that customers receive the best ingredients while bolstering the local economy.
A Culinary Journey of Joshy Jin
Founded by Newcastle University graduate Joshy Jin, WowzaBox emerged from his desire to bring authentic Chinese flavors to homes across the UK. Joshy first gained recognition in the North East culinary scene by launching La Yuan in 2017, the region’s first Sichuan-focused restaurant. This venture marked the beginning of his partnership with local suppliers like Warren Butterworth and Taylor Foods.
Adapting to Changing Tastes
WowzaBox was launched during the pandemic in response to the increasing demand for restaurant-quality food at home. Based in Team Valley, it offers a chef-led recipe box service without a subscription model, featuring a diverse menu of fresh, region-specific Chinese dishes that are often hard to find in the UK.
Plans for Growth
With significant crowdfunding support through Seedrs, WowzaBox is expanding its operations, increasing production capacity, and acquiring new premises to facilitate its growth.
