A New Kitchen at École de la Mhotte

A Community Effort Brings Fresh Meals to Students

Saint-Menoux – Since the start of the school year, École de la Mhotte has been equipped with a brand-new kitchen, fully compliant with school catering standards. The kitchen is located in one of the wings of the Château de la Mhotte, and was built entirely through the voluntary efforts of parents, including many skilled artisans.

Fresh, Local, and Organic Meals

Every school day, the school’s two new canteen staff members, Romain Maroilleau and Alexandra Hérisson, both former restaurateurs, prepare around 125 hot and vegetarian meals for students and teachers. The meals prioritize organic products and support local producers. In some cases, the ingredients come from producers just next door – for instance, the school’s Jardin d’enfants supplies the kitchen with squash freshly harvested from a neighboring farm (as seen in the accompanying photo).

A Space for Culinary Creativity

Outside school hours, this new kitchen serves as a workspace for Romain and Alexandra to expand their vagabond kitchen catering business. The École de la Mhotte, which has been located in Saint-Menoux since 1979, now serves nearly 120 children, from kindergarten through middle school.
