San Antonio’s El Remedio Shutters Brick-and-Mortar Location “Until Further Notice”

by Ella

El Remedio, a well-known birria and seafood restaurant in San Antonio, has temporarily closed its brick-and-mortar location at 5018 Research Drive, Suite 104. In an Instagram post shared on Monday, the restaurant owners announced that the closure would be in effect “until further notice.”

Unexpected Shutdown

In a video posted by co-owner Josh Palacios, he explained, “we woke up to bad news this morning” that the restaurant had been shut down unexpectedly. The locks were changed at the restaurant’s location, effectively stopping operations. While no specific details were provided regarding the exact reason for the closure, the comments section of the post mentioned that the landlord had locked them out, typically an action associated with unpaid rent. However, the restaurant did not confirm if this was the cause.

Business Challenges

The owners also cited the summer heat as a major factor affecting their business, explaining that it contributed to their current difficulties. In addition, Palacios’ fiancée and business partner, Martita Sanchez, revealed that their business had become overstretched due to operating the restaurant along with five food trucks. As of now, the fleet has been reduced to four trucks, with only one currently in operation.

Despite the challenges, Sanchez shared optimism that they might be able to strike a deal with the landlord to reopen the restaurant soon, potentially as early as next week.

Food Truck Operation Continues

In the meantime, Palacios urged their loyal customers to support Ta’con Madres, the latest food truck under the El Remedio brand. The food truck offers a variety of birria items and is stationed at 11375 Shaenfield Road, open from noon to 10 p.m. this weekend. Sanchez added that by supporting their food truck, customers can help sustain the business and keep their staff employed.

Looking Forward

While the future of the brick-and-mortar restaurant remains uncertain, Palacios and Sanchez are hopeful that they can resolve their issues and reopen soon. For now, their focus remains on the success of their food truck operations, particularly Ta’con Madres, which continues to serve delicious birria to their dedicated fan base.
