Newbury Welcomes a Culinary Delight
Newbury’s independent restaurant scene has gained a fantastic new addition: Gourmet Pasta Co. This vibrant eatery, owned by Hugo Lesser, brings a modern twist to traditional Italian cuisine. Interestingly, Hugo found his passion for these unique pasta dishes while living in South America, despite having no prior experience in the food industry.
Reimagining Italian Favorites
Gourmet Pasta Co. puts a creative spin on the classic Italian dishes we all know and love. The menu offers beloved staples such as carbonara and beef ragu, with the option to choose from a variety of pasta types. For those seeking something a little different, the restaurant introduces dishes like green sorrentinos—large, generously filled pasta parcels that promise a delightful burst of flavor.
A Warm Welcome and an Inviting Ambiance
Upon arriving at Gourmet Pasta Co., we were greeted with warmth and led to a well-lit table in the heart of the modern and stylish restaurant. The ambiance was perfect for a cozy dining experience, with soft lighting and gentle background music enhancing the relaxed atmosphere.
A Memorable Meal
The menu, filled with enticing options, made it difficult to choose. After some deliberation, we decided to share one of the day’s specials: black ravioli stuffed with four cheeses, served in a buttery parmesan sauce. Alongside that, we ordered tagliatelle with a creamy chicken and mushroom sauce, ciabatta with homemade chimichurri, and a selection of seasonal greens.
Each dish surpassed our expectations. The black ravioli, rich and perfectly al dente, was a highlight. The combination of four cheeses was balanced beautifully, complementing the earthy flavor of the pasta. Initially, I had reservations about trying black pasta, recalling a less-than-pleasant squid ink spaghetti experience in Venice. However, this dish was extraordinary, and I would highly recommend it if it appears on the specials menu again.
Tagliatelle Perfection
Tagliatelle has always been my favorite pasta, and Gourmet Pasta Co. delivered a flawless version. The buttery sauce, garnished with fresh herbs, paired exquisitely with tender chicken breast, creating a dish that was both hearty and indulgent.
Sides That Steal the Show
The sides were equally impressive. The ciabatta with chimichurri was so good that my mother even asked for the recipe—a true testament to its quality. The seasonal greens were fresh and well-prepared, rounding out a satisfying and well-balanced meal.
Portions and Takeaways
One of the standout aspects of Gourmet Pasta Co. was the generous portion sizes. It’s always refreshing to see an independent restaurant that ensures you leave full and happy. In fact, we were so impressed that we bought a selection of their takeaway sauces to recreate the experience at home.
An Evening to Remember
If you’re in search of an evening filled with exceptional food, locally sourced wines, and top-notch service, Gourmet Pasta Co. is the place to be. Whether you’re a pasta aficionado or just looking to try something new, this delightful spot in Newbury won’t disappoint.
