Celebrating Culinary Richness
Laredo is set to celebrate its vibrant culinary scene at a three-day food symposium called Food Town. This event, organized by the city of Laredo in collaboration with local organizations, aims to showcase the city’s diverse culinary practices. Partners include the Laredo Food Policy Council, Laredo Public Health, Laredo Main Street, and the Laredo Center for Urban Agriculture & Sustainability.
“Laredo plants its flag as a foodie destination city,” said a representative from the Laredo Center for Urban Agriculture & Sustainability.
Event Details
The symposium kicks off on Thursday, October 17, at 6 p.m. at Texas A&M International University. The opening night will feature a talk by guest speaker Chef Jesse Kuykendall, a renowned executive chef and Food Network personality from Laredo.
Following the talk, a chef-led panel will take place, featuring notable local chefs including Chef Gonzalez of El Capataz, Chef Zapata of 550 Pizza, Chef Fernandez of Lolita’s Bistro, Marcella Juarez of Palo Blanco Farm and Ranch, and Servando Leal of Cross Country Meats. Food historian Maite Gomez-Rejon will moderate the panel, discussing the local food industry.
Weekend Activities
The festivities continue on Saturday, October 18, with a pumpkin patch, urban demonstration farm tours, and seasonal tastings at the Caseco House, located at 1415 Chihuahua St.
The event will conclude on Sunday, October 19, with a community farmers market and chef cooking demonstrations at The Outlet Shoppes at Laredo.
