Charm Thai Kitchen & Bar: Authentic Thai Cuisine in The Woodlands

by Ella

A Dream Realized Amid Challenges

Wanalee and Adam Gorelick’s journey to open a restaurant in The Woodlands began in late 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges of starting a business during this difficult time, their first restaurant, Charm Bistro, found success through takeout orders.

“It actually was not a bad time to open up a restaurant,” Adam explained. “We only had to worry about getting the food right and could figure out customer service later.”

Adam, a former math teacher in Spring ISD, and his wife Wanalee, who had intended to become a registered nurse, shifted their focus to the restaurant industry. They started with Noe’s Crepes Coffee and Tea and have since opened several restaurants.

In January, the couple expanded their culinary offerings with the launch of Charm Thai Kitchen & Bar, which presents an upscale yet casual dining experience featuring authentic Thai cuisine.

The Gorelicks emphasized that Charm Thai Kitchen & Bar not only provides authentic Thai dishes but also creates an ideal setting for celebrations and gatherings.

Initially uncertain about the restaurant’s location due to the history of previous closures in the same building, Adam noted that 60% of their customers have followed them from their original location in Spring. The restaurant enjoys a full house on weekends.

To maintain authenticity, Wanalee shared that the restaurant employs staff from Thailand. As a native of Thailand, she empathizes with the challenges faced by recent immigrants. To support these individuals, the Gorelicks offer free housing and transportation to new Thai migrants seeking work in their restaurants.

“We focus on supporting and keeping our staff happy,” Wanalee said. “If they are happy, then they can make our customers happy in return.”

The restaurant is managed by Ann Middleton, a native of Thailand and a former server for the Gorelicks.

“Ann has been with us since day one, and she has helped us grow,” Wanalee added. “Without her, it would have been a lot tougher.”

Delicious Thai Cuisine Awaits

Charm Thai Kitchen & Bar features a diverse menu that includes both traditional Thai dishes and unique American-inspired offerings. A standout item is the Texas Thai barbecue fried rice, which comes with two ribs.

Popular menu items include pad thai and The Woodlands sampler, which consists of cheese rolls, spring rolls, crab wontons, and dumplings served with house-made dipping sauces.

In addition to the food, the restaurant boasts an impressive cocktail menu, featuring classic cocktails with a Thai twist. Adam mentioned that they aim to be a go-to destination for quality cocktails at fair prices, offering over 100 whiskey brands. Notable cocktails include the Tiger Woods, made with Thai tea and Roku gin, and the Lying Buddha, crafted with lime leaf-infused vodka, fresh lime juice, and coconut liqueur.

Looking ahead, the Gorelicks are excited to announce plans to open their seventh restaurant, Charm Tap House, in November at the former Tapped Drafthouse located in Marcel Town Center.

Location: 4223 Research Forest Drive, Ste. 100, The Woodlands.
