The Valletta Food Festival, organized by the Valletta Cultural Agency and supported by Visit Malta, is taking place from October 18 to 20. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Valletta Design Cluster, the festival aims to promote Maltese identity and cuisine.
A Showcase of Local Flavors
In its third edition, the Valletta Local Food Festival provides a unique platform for food lovers to explore the rich culinary culture of Malta. Visitors can sample authentic dishes while discovering the talents of local chefs and artisans.
Charles Bone, the festival’s Artistic Director, emphasized that the event allows the public to appreciate the creativity and passion of Maltese chefs. “They will present various menus celebrating the flavors of our island and the Maltese archipelago,” Bone stated.
Highlighting Traditional Sweets
One of the festival’s highlights will be Chef Ronnie Caruana, who will create traditional Maltese sweets using local ingredients. As a renowned pastry chef, Caruana will also share his expertise with attendees.
Celebrating Maltese Heritage
During the festival launch, Jason Micallef, Chairman of the Valletta Cultural Agency, spoke about how the event showcases Maltese culture through its vibrant cuisine. He noted that food, along with language and culture, is essential to Malta’s identity and heritage.
Owen Bonnici, the Minister for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government, described the festival as a wonderful example of how culinary traditions unite people and enrich national identity.
A Feast for All Senses
Festival-goers can enjoy a variety of artisanal offerings, including beer, wine, cheese, and olive oil. The event also features live music, Maltese craftsmanship, and a workshop from Malta Accelerate, focusing on food production from local farmers. Admission to the festival is free, making it an accessible celebration of Malta’s culinary heritage.
