“Jake Makes It Easy” Premieres October 28
Jewish celebrity chef Jake Cohen is set to launch his first cooking show, “Jake Makes It Easy,” on October 28. This new show aims to help viewers become hosting superstars with simple yet delicious dishes, including Iraqi salmon, bourekas, and Cohen’s fudgey date brownies.
A Busy Culinary Career
Cohen is no stranger to the culinary world. He has authored two cookbooks: “Jew-ish” (2021) and “I Could Nosh” (2023), with a third book scheduled for release in 2025. In addition, he bakes and sells Jewish treats like challah and chocolate rainbow rugelach through Goldbelly. With 2.5 million followers on Instagram and TikTok, he shares mouth-watering content that highlights his culinary talents.
A Focus on Simplicity and Jewish Flavors
In “Jake Makes It Easy,” which airs on the Home.Made.Nation block of programming on A&E and FYI, Cohen guides viewers through easy-to-follow recipes. “My goal is to create delicious, reliable recipes that will make you an entertaining superstar,” he states in the show’s introduction. He adds, “Let’s make this easy.”
Cohen blends his own Ashkenazi traditions with the Mizrahi flavors from his husband Alex’s family. Each episode begins with a cheerful “Hello, gorgeous,” paying tribute to Barbra Streisand. Cohen proudly wears a silver Star of David, reflecting his Jewish heritage.
In the first two episodes, he prepares a variety of dishes, including an Iraqi salmon with caramelized onion and tomato sauce, fudgey date brownies, a spinach and feta boureka, and baklava.
Family Recipes and Cultural Heritage
While making the brownies, Cohen shares how a trip to Israel inspired the dessert after tasting rich dates at a spice market. During the salmon preparation, he gives a brief history of Iraqi Jewish cuisine, highlighting the importance of the flavors and spices. Throughout the show, he honors Alex’s mother Robina and aunt for teaching him traditional Iraqi Jewish recipes and cooking techniques.
“Preserving family recipes is a passion of mine,” Cohen explains. “I love getting to know my husband’s family and adapting their recipes for future generations, creating a taste of a cuisine made by these amazing women who have written nothing down.”
Upcoming Recipes
According to a press release, other recipes featured in the show include balsamic and soy brisket, challah monkey bread, baked gnocchi, and soup-less chicken soup.
In a recent interview with social media creator Kate Mackz, Cohen revealed that having a cooking show was a childhood dream. “I’m grateful that this dream is coming true, and it beautifully represents Jewish culture while delivering delicious food,” he said.
