New Dining Experience Opens October 25
Vida Restaurant is set to open its doors on October 25 in Thornwood, occupying the former Abis space. The multi-floor venue offers a unique dining atmosphere with a blend of styles, featuring both a lively supper club vibe and an elegant European parlor.
Owners and Ambiance
Chef Marc Taxiera and his wife, Brianne Myers, who also own Augustine’s Salumeria in Mamaroneck, designed Vida to have two distinct levels. The first floor embraces a seductive atmosphere, while the second floor resembles an old Victorian mansion, complete with seven chandeliers, vintage candlesticks, and charming furnishings reminiscent of a grandparent’s home.
The first floor will host The Lounge, an intimate 40-seat area for private events, cocktails, and light bites. There’s also a seasonal rooftop terrace accommodating about 50 guests, which offers the same light fare and drinks.
Culinary Delights
Taxiera, known for his playful and elevated approach to traditional dishes, has created a diverse menu. Highlights include:
Tapas: Smashed crispy potato bites (papas brava), cheesy croquettes with Serrano ham, chocolate-rubbed lamb belly, Spanish meatballs (albóndigas), and olive-oil-fried duck egg with sea urchin hollandaise and caviar.
Paella: Variants include Valenciana (chicken, rabbit, escargot, sofrito, and saffron), seafood (lobster, mussels, and scallops), and a vegetarian option.
Entrées: Heirloom corn tacos and a Parilla section with grass-fed beef and Iberico pork served with various sauces like mojo verde and chimichurri.
The restaurant also features signature cocktails and a wine list focused on Spanish vineyards.
Stunning Decor
The interior of Vida Restaurant boasts striking design elements. A large mural of a lion, created by a Ukrainian artist, greets guests at the entrance. The couple initially considered naming the restaurant “Leon,” symbolizing strength and courage, but ultimately chose “Vida,” meaning life.
The first floor features a bold red and black color scheme, with fringed black chandeliers and an eye-catching bar illuminated by bottles and red roses. A semi-private dining area, adorned with a red velvet couch and gold-chained curtains, can seat 12 guests, offering an intimate setting.
The 60-seat dining room showcases an eclectic mix of vintage plates, sourced from antique stores and thrift shops, adding to the restaurant’s unique character.
“We’re thrilled to bring three distinct dining experiences to this new community,” said Myers.
