New Dining Destination in Nariman Point
Aditya Birla New Age Hospitality (ABNAH) has launched Waarsa, a new dining spot in Mumbai that focuses on premium casual dining centered around Awadhi cuisine. The restaurant is situated in the cultural hub of the National Centre for the Performing Arts at Nariman Point.
Celebrating Culinary Heritage
The name “Waarsa,” which translates to “inheritance,” reflects the restaurant’s mission to revive the culinary heritage of Awadh. The establishment is a collaboration between culinary director Rahul Akerkar and master chef Mukhtar Qureshi. Together, they have curated a menu that tells the story of Awadh’s history through its dishes, drawing inspiration from both royal kitchens and traditional home-cooked meals.
Insights from the Culinary Directors
Rahul Akerkar shared insights into the restaurant’s creation, stating, “We’ve crafted every detail of Waarsa to reflect the essence of Awadh in a way that is both understated and elegant. We immersed ourselves in the diverse culinary landscapes of Lucknow, Benares, Kolkata, and beyond, engaging deeply with the history and nuances of this remarkable cuisine.”
Chef Mukhtar Qureshi also highlighted the personal connection to the menu. He remarked, “The menu reflects my childhood memories of home-cooked meals and the rich stories from my family. It honors the authenticity of Awadhi cuisine and its historical roots while introducing modern touches for a lighter dining experience.”
Elegant Design and Ambiance
The restaurant’s design, created by restoration architect Abha Narain Lambah, enhances the dining experience with a modern yet luxurious ambiance. Curly Tales describes the interior as featuring soft salmon hues and intricate ceiling designs that capture the grandeur of Awadh.
Menu Highlights
Waarsa’s menu includes dishes like Raan-e-Mukhtar and Zafrani Lagaan Murgh, alongside cocktails such as The Emperor’s Rose and Gin Gilori, all celebrating the spirit of Awadh.
