Torro Mexican Cuisine in Lockport is now offering fans the chance to enjoy Margarita Mondays. The popular restaurant, located at 16529 W. 159th St., announced at the beginning of the year that it will now be open seven days a week. This change, which began on January 6, marks a shift from the restaurant’s previous schedule when it was closed on Mondays.
“It seemed like a good time to make the change,” said Omar Popoca, manager of Torro Mexican Cuisine. “People are starting to know about us more, and many restaurants in the area are closed on Mondays, so it felt like an opportunity to stay busy.”
Updated Hours to Serve Customers Better
Torro Mexican Cuisine will now operate with the following hours:
Monday through Thursday: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
To support the extended hours, the restaurant has hired additional staff.
Popoca shared that the response on the first Monday was positive, despite initial concerns about how busy it might be. “We did pretty good,” he said. “We didn’t expect it to be very busy on the first Monday, but we had a good turnout.”
New Specials in the Works
Looking ahead, Popoca mentioned that the management is considering introducing special deals on Mondays, such as drink or dinner specials. “We already have margarita specials on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so we’re thinking about adding a beer or cocktail special for Mondays, and possibly a dinner special as well. We haven’t finalized anything yet,” he explained.
The margaritas at Torro are already a fan favorite, with flavors like jalapeño cucumber, jalapeño strawberry, and coconut—its newest flavor—gaining significant popularity.
Fresh and Homemade Mexican Favorites
Torro Mexican Cuisine prides itself on offering fresh, homemade dishes. Popular menu items include the birria taco dinner, spicy chicken pozole soup, and crispy corn chips with salsa, all made in-house daily.
The restaurant’s success has been particularly noticeable in the past year, when the current owners and management took over the business. When Torro first opened in 2022, it was a fusion restaurant combining Mexican and Asian flavors, with sushi on the menu. However, Popoca noted that the fusion concept didn’t work out as expected.
“When we took over, we decided to focus entirely on Mexican cuisine, and that has been much better received,” Popoca said. “The community has been very welcoming, and the reviews have been great.”
Torro’s dedication to authentic Mexican dishes and its new Monday hours are helping the restaurant grow its loyal customer base in the Lockport area.
