Panda Dumpling Brings Authentic Asian Cuisine to Vienna

by Ella

Vienna is welcoming a new Asian restaurant, Panda Dumpling, offering a variety of handmade dumplings and other Chinese and Japanese staples. The restaurant, located at 155B Maple Ave. W., recently held a soft opening, with its official grand opening scheduled for January 18.

Panda Dumpling is owned and operated by Bing Sui and her husband, Lei Yan. Encouraged by their two sons, who are fans of Sui’s cooking, the couple decided to open their first restaurant. Yan, who has over two decades of experience as a chef—most recently at China Express Tysons in Vienna—will lead the kitchen team. Sui will manage the front of the house and help craft the dumplings. A former Chinese dance and Peking opera teacher in the DMV area, Sui has received positive feedback from customers so far.

A Wide Range of Dishes

Diners can enjoy authentic steamed and fried dumplings, as well as Japanese gyoza and soup dumplings. The menu also features rice and noodle dishes such as unaju and gyudon beef, along with fried delicacies like takoyaki and scallion pancakes. Popular items include scallion pancakes, crab rangoon, beef noodle soup, sesame balls, and shrimp tempura. Diners on the Vienna Foodies Facebook page have also praised the pan-fried beef bao.

“The portions are generous, and I love their versions of classic dishes—soup dumplings and pork dumplings were excellent,” said Vienna resident Chris Roosenraad. “The Vienna food scene has really taken off post-COVID, and I’m hopeful Panda Dumpling makes it.”

A Dream Realized

Sui shared that her family’s dream of opening a Chinese restaurant took more than two years to bring to life. The restaurant is now open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Wednesday, with slightly adjusted hours on Thursdays, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.

With its diverse menu and authentic offerings, Panda Dumpling is quickly becoming a standout addition to the Vienna dining scene.
