Sho Sushi & Izakaya to Bring Modern Japanese Cuisine to McLean

by Ella

A new restaurant in McLean is set to revolutionize the local dining scene by blending traditional Japanese flavors with a modern, Western twist. Sho Sushi & Izakaya, located at 6828D Old Dominion Drive, is slated to open in February, replacing the former Tami Sushi restaurant.

A Fresh Dining Experience in McLean

Sho Sushi & Izakaya aims to offer a “premium casual Japanese cuisine with a Western twist,” as stated on its Instagram profile. Co-owner Pattie K, who requested to be identified by her first name, explains that the idea was born from more than a decade of experience in the Japanese restaurant industry.

A Fusion of Japanese and Western Cuisine

As its name suggests, Sho will serve sushi alongside izakaya-style small plates. The menu will include classic Japanese dishes such as grilled meat skewers, fried chicken (karaage), and gyoza, as well as unique fusion offerings. One standout dish will be pan-roasted halibut with miso dashi risotto, shiitake mushrooms, and yuzu sauce.

The restaurant will also feature Western favorites like ravioli, infused with Japanese ingredients and techniques for a new culinary experience.

“At Sho, we want to offer a dining experience that’s both visually appealing and a celebration of the harmony between Japanese and Western culinary traditions,” Pattie shared. “Our approach ensures each guest will find something new and memorable.”

Growing Japanese Food Scene in McLean

Sho will add to the expanding Japanese food scene in McLean, joining Otosan Ramen, which recently opened nearby, as well as established restaurants like Miyagi and Tachibana.

Despite the competition, Sho’s unique blend of flavors and techniques is expected to set it apart.

“McLean is a vibrant and growing area with a community that values quality dining,” Pattie noted. “Its accessibility and reputation for sophisticated dining made it the perfect place for our new concept.”

Upcoming Opening and Community Focus

Sho’s storefront is already equipped with signs, and the restaurant is awaiting approval for its alcohol service license. The 1,800-square-foot space will have seating for 40 to 45 guests.

“We’re excited to share our passion with the community and look forward to building lasting connections,” Pattie concluded.

Sho Sushi & Izakaya is set to bring an exciting fusion of Japanese and Western culinary traditions to McLean, creating an innovative dining experience for local food lovers.
