Sam Wo, a beloved Chinese restaurant in San Francisco’s Chinatown, has officially announced its closure. After 116 years of service, the restaurant will shut its doors on Sunday, January 26, 2025. The closure comes after the restaurant’s lease expires this month.
Chef and owner David Jitong Ho, who has worked at Sam Wo for 42 years, plans to retire at the age of 68. Investors had hoped that a new owner or family could take over the iconic restaurant, but no one has stepped forward to continue the legacy.
Fans of the historic eatery are encouraged to make their final visit before it closes for good.
