Dhemaji is one step closer to finalizing its entry for the “One District, One Cuisine” initiative. The District Export Promotion Committee (DEPC) held a key meeting today at the Conference Hall of the DC Office to discuss and select the local cuisine that will represent the district.
Meeting Highlights
The DEPC meeting was chaired by Kuldeep Hazarika, ACS, Addl. District Commissioner (IND) of Dhemaji, and attended by various officials including the General Manager (i/c), District Agriculture Officer, Assistant Directors from I&C, Deputy CEO of Zila Parishad, DDM NABARD, District Labour Officer, and representatives from the District Transport Office (DTO) and DBS. The main objective of the meeting was to finalize the local dish that will be showcased as part of the “One District, One Cuisine” campaign.
Awareness Initiatives for Healthy Eating
This meeting follows the recent two-day Proper Food Fair held last month in Tinsukia. The fair, which was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pabitra Kumar Das, focused on raising awareness about healthy eating habits. During the inauguration, Das highlighted the importance of healthy eating in preventing diseases.
The fair also included sessions on food safety, the role of small food vendors, and the significance of healthy food practices, led by experts such as Mrinmay Chetia from the Tinsukia Agricultural Development Center. The event was further supported by local leaders, including MLA Sanjay Kishan, who expressed satisfaction with the event’s success. A cultural program was also featured in the evening, celebrating the region’s food culture.
As Dhemaji prepares to finalize its contribution to the “One District, One Cuisine” initiative, these efforts to promote healthy eating and local food traditions continue to gain momentum.
