The vibrant celebration of China and Malaysia’s cultural and culinary ties took place from 19 to 22 February 2025, hosted by IOI Properties Group (IOIPG) and Visit IOI Resort City. The event, titled China and Malaysia – A Celebration of Culture, Tradition, and Culinary Excellence, brought together elements of history, performance, and flavor, offering an immersive experience for all who attended.
A Festive Start at W Kuala Lumpur
The celebration began on 19 February 2025 at W Kuala Lumpur, one of IOIPG’s latest acquisitions in the hospitality sector. Guests at the hotel’s WET Deck were treated to a specially choreographed flash mob dance that incorporated traditional dance styles such as the Northern Shaanxi Folk Song and ShaanBei Yangge Fan Dance. The stunning Petronas Twin Towers served as a breathtaking backdrop to this energetic opening. The flash mob performances continued on 20 February 2025 at IOI Mall Damansara and IOI Mall Puchong, further spreading the festive spirit.
A Night of Performances and Cuisine at Moxy Putrajaya
The celebration moved to Moxy Putrajaya on 21 February 2025, a trendy hotel located next to IOI City Mall in IOI Resort City. Known for its youthful vibe, Moxy was the perfect setting for the evening’s cultural performances. Guests enjoyed captivating acts, including the Tang Dynasty Roly-Poly Dance, a Master of Ramen show, folklore storytelling, and a showcase of the Four Great Beauties of China. These performances were accompanied by a fusion of Malaysian and Chinese cuisine, creating a perfect blend of culture and culinary delights.
A Gala to Remember
The final day of the celebration culminated in a grand gala dinner at Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, part of IOI Resort City, on 22 February 2025. Over 250 guests, including industry representatives and dignitaries, gathered for the event. Lee Thai Hung, Deputy Director General (Promotion 11) of the Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board, graced the evening with his presence. The night featured a symbolic Roasted Lamb Cutting Ceremony and the stunning Dunhuang “Flying Apsaras” Dance Show, both of which left a lasting impression on attendees.
Remarks on Cultural Exchange
Alan Yau, Head of Hotels at IOI Properties Group, spoke at the gala about the importance of the celebration. He emphasized that the event was more than just a showcase of food and performances, noting that it aimed to foster mutual respect and understanding between Malaysia and China. Yau also highlighted IOI Properties Group’s presence in Xiamen, underscoring the role of such cultural exchanges in strengthening economic and business ties between the two nations.
Tan Lee Fong, Cluster Director of Sales and Marketing at IOI Properties Group and a key figure in the creation of Visit IOI Resort City, also addressed the significance of the event. She noted the overwhelming response from both Malaysians and Chinese visitors, stating that the event had successfully raised awareness and appreciation of the shared cultural heritage between the two countries.
A New Era of Cultural Exchange
Yan Hua, Secretary-General of the Fujian Shaanxi Chamber of Commerce and founder of the Supermodel Fan Brand, commended the scope of the event. She expressed her honor in presenting China’s rich cultural history to the Malaysian audience, noting the enthusiasm with which Malaysians embraced these traditions. Hua concluded by stating that the event had sparked a new wave of cultural exchange that would continue to inspire both countries for years to come.
The celebration was made possible through a partnership with Tourism Malaysia and co-organized with the Fujian Shaanxi Chamber of Commerce, Xi’an Time-Honored Brand Association, and Shaanxi General Chamber of Commerce, Malaysia. It was also co-hosted by Xiamen Tianei Haomian Catering Management Co. Ltd and Xiamen Post-80’s Cultural Art Co. Ltd.
This event has not only deepened cultural ties between Malaysia and China but has also paved the way for future collaborations, creating opportunities for mutual growth and understanding.
