Newport’s dining scene has been elevated with the recent opening of Monarca Authentic Mexican Cuisine at 104 Broadway. Since opening its doors on January 13, the restaurant has been serving traditional Mexican dishes that transport diners to Puebla, Mexico.
Monarca offers a variety of classic Mexican options, including tacos, burritos, and enchiladas. However, the standout dishes are the authentic Puebla specialties, such as Mole Poblano de Pollo and Pipian de Pollo, reflecting the restaurant’s dedication to true Mexican culinary traditions.
A Personal Mission from the Owner
Owner Maria Carranza, who moved from Long Island, NY, to bring this project to life, named the restaurant Monarca after the Monarch butterfly. “I’m fascinated by their incredible migration,” Carranza shared with What’sUpNewp. “Their journey resonates with me on a personal level.”
Carranza’s goal is to introduce Newport to the real flavors of Mexico. “I’m from Puebla, and I want to share the genuine tastes of my hometown,” she explains. “This is what authentic Mexican cuisine is all about.”
A Full Menu for All Day Dining
Monarca caters to all meals, offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. Early risers can enjoy American-style breakfast platters or dive into Mexican morning favorites like Huevos Rancheros and Chilaquiles.
For lunch and dinner, the restaurant serves a wide selection of tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. For those with a larger appetite, heartier options like Carne Asada or the spicy Camarones a la Diabla are available.
Convenient Hours for Dining
Monarca is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with extended weekend hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., including breakfast service.
Now occupying the space formerly held by Hummingbird, Monarca adds a fresh, authentic flavor to Newport’s ever-growing and diverse culinary scene.
