Gurt Wings Opens Its First Restaurant in Bristol

by Ella

Gurt Wings has officially opened its first permanent restaurant in Bristol, marking a significant milestone for the business. The new location, situated on Museum Street in Wapping Wharf, opened its doors on the same day as founder James Mitchell’s birthday.

What started as a small food van has now expanded into a thriving operation with a dedicated restaurant. The opening event, held on Thursday evening, combined a soft launch with a birthday celebration. Guests were treated to a menu featuring Gurt Wings’ signature chicken wings, chicken strips, popcorn chicken, and a selection of homemade sauces.

A Journey from Food Van to Restaurant

In an Instagram post ahead of the event, Mitchell reflected on the journey from humble beginnings. “From frying wings in my garage with friends to buying my first gazebo & unit to then moving onto a truck, a huge headquarters, having over 40 incredible hardworking staff, 3 trucks & fixed sites,” he shared.

The Gurt Wings fleet includes three food trucks—Gurtha, Gurtrina, and Algurt Einstein—which are a familiar sight at markets across Bristol, including Finzels Reach, Harbourside, Temple Quay, and Tobacco Factory. The first truck, Gurtrude, is now operated by Danny’s Burgers, stationed at the Fierce & Noble brewery in St Werburgh’s.

Looking Ahead

Mitchell expressed his gratitude for the ongoing support from customers, saying, “Huge thank you to everyone who supports us each and every day! We couldn’t do it without you!” The event, which featured local DJ Gardna, served as both a celebration of Gurt Wings’ success and the beginning of a new chapter for the growing brand.
