The 3rd Annual Watertown Burger Battle, hosted by the Watertown Area Chamber of Commerce, recently came to a close, bringing together local restaurants for a flavorful competition that also benefited several local charities. Running from January 16th to February 28th, the event saw 14 local eateries compete not only for burger supremacy but to support various important causes.
Dempsey’s Wins “People’s Choice Champion”
After weeks of tasty rivalry, Danger Von Dempsey’s ATY, located at the airport, was crowned the “People’s Choice Champion.” Their winning creation, the “Das Kanonier” burger, wowed taste buds with its German-inspired ingredients. The burger features house-made dough wrapped around beef, cabbage, and gouda, topped with black truffle oil and balsamic honey vinaigrette. What makes the victory even sweeter is that the proceeds from “Das Kanonier” directly supported the Boys & Girls Club of Watertown, an organization dedicated to providing a safe and positive environment for local youth.
A Delicious Way to Give Back
The Watertown Burger Battle was more than just a culinary competition. Each restaurant crafted a unique burger and pledged to donate a portion of their sales to a local charity. Here are some of the other standout contenders and the causes they supported:
Dempsey’s Brewery Restaurant & Pub: “The Apolo” burger supported the Beacon Center, an organization aiding victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Willy’s Sports Bar, Grille, & Casino: Their “Willy’s Ultimate Popper Burger” raised funds for the Boys & Girls Club of Watertown, alongside the champion burger.
Sandy’s Bar, Grill, & Casino: Their “The F-Bomb” burger benefited the Beacon Center, further supporting victims of violence.
2nd Street Station: The “OMG Burger” helped the Watertown Breast Cancer Support Group, which supports survivors of breast cancer.
Dakota Butcher Steakhouse: The “Blueberry Brie Bacon Burger” raised money for the Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.) Lodge #6, supporting local law enforcement.
Double Barrel Steakhouse: Known for their premium meats, their “Extreme Rodeo Burger” supported Make-A-Wish, helping children battling critical illnesses.
High Mountain Supper Club & Lounge: The “Cattleman’s Burger” benefited the Glacial Lakes Humane Society, which advocates for animals in need.
Labbie’s Sports Bar & Grill: Their “S’mores Burger” supported the Glacial Lakes Humane Society, doubling down on support for animals.
Minerva’s Restaurant & Bar: Their “Double Patty French Onion Smashburger” benefited Sleep in Heavenly Peace, ensuring children in need have a safe place to sleep.
Page’s Place Cafe & Grill: The “Gringo Burger” supported EC-CASA, which advocates for abused and neglected children in the court system.
Ship’s Inn Bar & Grill: “The Captain” burger raised funds for the Castlewood Fire Department, honoring local volunteer firefighters.
Tables Steakhouse: Their “BBQ Mac & Cheese Burger” benefited the Castlewood School District’s unpaid lunch fund, ensuring children have access to nutritious meals.
Watertown Brewing Company: “The Bavarian Burger” supported the Watertown Curling Club, promoting local recreation and community engagement.
