After a brief yet successful run, Sea Breeze Vietnamese Cuisine in Sidney will be closing its doors on March 29, 2024. The restaurant, which opened just over a year ago, is bidding farewell due to financial challenges that have made running the eatery increasingly difficult.
Owner Halle Vu shared her disappointment, stating, “Everything is challenging now, not just for us but for many companies. Running the restaurant costs a lot, but we didn’t want the quality of food to suffer. We didn’t wish for this to happen.”
A Short But Memorable Run
Sea Breeze opened on February 1, 2024, and quickly earned a loyal following, receiving rave reviews from customers. One diner, Sophie L., shared her experience on TripAdvisor, recalling the shrimp rice spring rolls and pho dishes. “The flavours, ingredients, and presentation were unforgettable. Honestly, the best pho I’ve ever had, without hesitation,” she wrote.
On a local Facebook group, another diner expressed their sadness after hearing the news: “We went there for the first time a couple of nights ago. So incredible…then we heard the sad news.”
Vu expressed her gratitude for the positive feedback and support from the community. “Reading some comments on the Sidney Facebook page makes me happy,” she said.
A New Chapter for Sea Breeze
Sea Breeze took over the location of the former Boondocks Bar and Grill, which had closed in August 2022 after 35 years of operation. Vu has hinted at possibly opening a smaller restaurant in Sidney in the future but will take a break for now.
The 5,000-square-foot restaurant was the only one in the area offering authentic Vietnamese cuisine, and it will be missed by its loyal patrons.
For those wishing to enjoy one last meal at Sea Breeze, the restaurant will remain open until its final day, March 29, 2025.
