Clare Irish Festival Celebrates Irish Culture and Cuisine in Downtown Clare

The 50th Annual Clare Irish Festival has officially begun, marking the start of the city’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Held in Clare’s downtown area, this five-day festival offers a variety of entertainment, activities, and delicious Irish cuisine.

Organized by the Clare Area Chamber of Commerce, the festival kicked off on Tuesday, March 11, and will run through Saturday, March 15. The festival aims to bring the community together to celebrate the rich traditions of Irish culture.

Exciting Events and Activities

A highlight of the festival, the Irish Comedy Tour, took place on Tuesday evening at the Doherty Hotel, featuring a lively mix of comedy and music to entertain the crowd.

As part of the celebrations, a grand parade will be held on Saturday, March 15, starting at noon on McEwan Street. The parade will travel from the Pettit Kapplinger VFW Post 5738 at 145 Wilcox Parkway to Third Street, providing a festive atmosphere for everyone.

Adding to the excitement, a spectacular drone show will light up the sky on Friday, March 14, at 8 p.m. in downtown Clare.

Competitions and Cultural Performances

Festivalgoers will have the chance to participate in several fun competitions, including an Irish recipe contest, the popular Irish Bed Race, a barrel race, and a strongman competition. These activities are sure to bring out the competitive spirit of the attendees.

The festival will also feature cultural performances such as Irish story time and dances by the Northern Lights Irish Dance Academy. Music lovers can enjoy performances from the Black Murray Band, the Kennedy’s Kitchen Band, and other local acts.

Irish Cuisine and Local Dining Specials

Authentic Irish food will be served at various local establishments during the festival. The 505 Cafe, located at 505 N. McEwan St., will offer Irish food and drink specials. Timeout Tavern, at 601 N. McEwan St., is serving traditional dishes like Reubens, corned beef and cabbage, and green specialty drinks.

Fun Festival Activities for All Ages

In keeping with the festive spirit, small green duck figurines have been hidden around the city. Festivalgoers are encouraged to take photos with the ducks and share them on the Clare Area Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page for a chance to win a prize. The winner will be drawn on Monday, March 17, and announced on the festival’s Facebook page.
