NYS to Launch Long Island Seafood Cuisine Trail in Oakdale

Long Island is about to celebrate the launch of its first-ever Seafood Cuisine Trail. On Wednesday, March 19, at 2 p.m., state representatives will gather at The Snapper Inn in Oakdale to officially unveil the initiative.

This new Seafood Cuisine Trail aims to promote Long Island’s seafood, aquaculture, and small business sectors, while also boosting tourism in the region. The event will feature remarks from Department of Agriculture and Markets Commissioner Richard Ball, along with members from the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County. Local restaurant owners, as well as representatives from the seafood and aquaculture industries, will also attend.

The Trail and Its Impact

The Long Island Seafood Cuisine Trail will include 20 locations across the island, stretching from Bay Shore to Montauk. The trail, dubbed the South Shore Trail, is designed to spotlight New York’s seafood industry and encourage visitors to explore venues that serve and sell locally harvested fish and shellfish.

The Snapper Inn, located on the western end of the trail, is one of the first stops. The launch event will feature a tasting menu that highlights local fish, shellfish, and wine, giving guests a firsthand experience of the region’s offerings.

The Seafood Cuisine Trail is also part of the state’s Blue Food Transformation initiative. Announced in Governor Kathy Hochul’s 2024 State of the State proposal, this initiative is focused on revitalizing New York’s aquaculture and seafood industries. It also aims to strengthen the state’s local food system and boost its economic impact.
