La Casa del Mofongo, a beloved Dominican restaurant chain, is expanding with the opening of its first Midtown location at 29 West 36th Street this spring. Founded 25 years ago by Felix Cabrera, the restaurant has grown to include several locations in New York and New Jersey, with this new Midtown spot marking the brand’s fifth establishment.
A Long-Standing Legacy of Flavor
Felix Cabrera’s vision of bringing authentic Dominican flavors to the community has thrived over the years, and his son, Pablo “P.J.” Cabrera, is excited to continue this tradition. According to Pablo, the restaurant has received consistently positive feedback wherever it’s opened, and they’re confident that the Midtown location will be no different.
“Wherever we put the restaurants, we usually get good feedback and people like the food, people like the atmosphere,” Pablo explained. “We figured Midtown would be a perfect place to try the same thing again.”
New Midtown Location: A Fresh Space for Flavor and Fun
The new Midtown location will stand out with a spacious, multi-level design. It will feature three floors: two main dining areas on the first and second floors, which can seat over 150 guests, and an additional lounge area in the basement. The restaurant will create a lively atmosphere with a blend of Latin and American music, making it a perfect spot for both dining and entertainment.
Pablo also shared plans to appeal to the sports crowd, saying that the new location will be equipped with over 20 large screens, ideal for sports viewing. The restaurant’s goal is to create a vibrant environment that fits seamlessly into the Midtown community.
A Taste of the Caribbean: Mofongo and More
True to its name, La Casa del Mofongo is renowned for its signature dish: mofongo. This traditional Caribbean delicacy is made with mashed plantains, garlic, and pork rinds, delivering a deliciously hearty meal. While mofongo is the star of the menu, guests can also enjoy a variety of other Dominican-inspired dishes that showcase the rich culinary heritage of the Caribbean.
Looking to the Future
As La Casa del Mofongo prepares to introduce its flavors to Midtown, Pablo is hopeful about the restaurant’s long-term success in the area. “We just hope to fit into the community and last a long time,” he said.
With its vibrant atmosphere, expansive dining options, and delicious Dominican cuisine, the new Midtown location of La Casa del Mofongo is sure to become a favorite for both locals and visitors alike.
