New Waterfront Restaurant in Derbyshire Combines Indian Cuisine with Tapas Dining

by Ella

A renowned restauranteur is bringing his unique fusion of Indian cuisine and tapas-style dining to Derbyshire. Suraj Pathak, the owner of the successful Lagan Indian Tapas Bar and Restaurant in Nottingham, is opening his first location in Findern, a picturesque village along the Trent and Mersey Canal.

Expanding Culinary Reach

Suraj, along with his son Raman, aims to offer the same fresh, innovative dining experience that has made their Nottingham restaurants popular. Lagan Indian Tapas combines traditional Indian flavors with tapas-style sharing plates, perfect for social dining.

Currently, the restaurant space is occupied by Nadee, but Suraj and Raman are planning a complete renovation of the venue to create the third branch of Lagan Indian Tapas. This new restaurant promises to highlight the diverse regional tastes of India through a casual yet vibrant dining concept.

A Dream Come True

Suraj, who has lived in Derby for many years, brings extensive experience to the venture, having worked at Anoki Restaurant in Derby and the Raddison Hotel in Dubai. “It’s always been my ambition to open a restaurant in Derbyshire, where my family has settled,” he said. Suraj is confident that the new location will attract customers, noting that many people already travel from Derby to Nottingham to enjoy Lagan’s unique style of dining.

In addition to the new restaurant, Suraj and Raman run two other Lagan Indian Tapas locations in Nottingham—one in the city center and another in Beeston. They also own two fine dining establishments, Mewar Haveli, in Radcliffe-on-Trent and Northampton.

Exciting Features at the New Location

The new Lagan restaurant, set to open in April, will feature 100 seating spaces, with 80% of the seats outdoors to take advantage of the scenic waterside setting. Guests can enjoy a weekly barbecue and live entertainment, alongside an extensive menu of food and cocktails.

Raman Pathak, who grew up in Derby, explained the concept: “While tapas is often associated with Spanish cuisine, the tradition of sharing small plates is very much a part of Indian culture. We want to create a casual, relaxed environment where people can enjoy a drink, order food at their own pace, and try a variety of dishes.”

A Diverse Menu for All

Lagan’s menu will offer a wide variety of options, from small nibbles to traditional meals. Raman emphasized that the restaurant’s approach to Indian cuisine will be more flexible than the typical “heavy” curry meal, providing choices for every type of diner.

The family is excited to welcome customers to the new restaurant, which will open in April, with a grand opening celebration planned for later this year.
