A new dining spot is set to open in the heart of Taunton, offering a unique blend of international cuisines with a focus on using locally sourced ingredients. The Green Room, located on Station Road, promises to provide a cosmopolitan menu that combines flavors and techniques from around the world.
A Dream Turned Reality for Owner Linda Muliri
Owner Linda Muliri, who has a background in catering and hospitality from her studies in London, has worked in several restaurants across the city. She says owning a restaurant has always been her dream.
“Our culinary style will blend elements from various international cuisines, creating dishes that incorporate flavors from different parts of the world,” Linda shared. “We will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner, offering a first-class, elegant dining experience for our customers.”
Focus on Atmosphere and Local Ingredients
Linda, who also runs a catering business that specializes in private dining, emphasizes that the restaurant’s focus is not just on food, but also on creating a memorable dining experience. “We’re working hard to get the décor, ambiance, lighting, and music just right to make the experience special,” she added.
The name “The Green Room” holds a significant meaning. Linda explained, “The Green Room is where performers and musicians entertain friends and family before or after going on stage. It’s a space for entertainment, and in our Green Room, we entertain customers with food.”
A Transformation of a Former Coffee Shop
The restaurant will be taking over the space previously occupied by Istanbul Café. Linda noted, “When people walk into the restaurant, they’ll be surprised. This place was always a coffee shop, but we’re transforming it into an elegant yet relaxing dining space where people can enjoy a meal or a drink.”
In line with their local community focus, The Green Room will source all its ingredients from local suppliers. “We’re staying super local,” Linda said. “The builder renovating the space is local, the menu designs are being created by a local company, and we’ll be serving Sheppy’s cider.”
Opening Plans
The Green Room is set to open at 56A Station Road, where Picalilli Line and then Istanbul Café once operated. Linda is excited for the grand opening, which is planned for late April or early May. “We can’t wait to share our passion for food with Taunton,” she concluded.
