As excitement builds for the International Food Exhibition (IFEX) Philippines 2025, the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) has been actively supporting Filipino chefs and culinary figures who are helping to promote local cuisine on the global stage.
At a recent culinary event, “A Sweet Spotlight,” hosted by Chef Kalel Chan at Lobby 385, media members and the IFEX Philippines team witnessed the announcement of a new collaboration between the San Juan-based steakhouse and Abi Balingit, a Filipino-American pastry chef. Balingit, a recipient of the 2024 James Beard Emerging Voice Award, will have her signature treats featured at Lobby 385 through March. Among her creations are the Tsokolate Pandesal Pudding and the Ube Macapuno Molten Lava Cake.
Bringing Filipino Flavors to Renowned Restaurants
In addition to her partnership with Lobby 385, Balingit revealed that some of her desserts will also be served at Guevarra’s by Chef Laudico, a popular Filipino-themed buffet in San Juan City. This collaboration with Chef Jac Laudico is part of the restaurant’s “Taste of the Philippines: A Global Journey” initiative, which aims to promote Filipino food internationally.
Promoting Filipino Cuisine Globally
Chef Kalel Chan, who is passionate about Filipino culinary heritage, emphasized the importance of international food trade shows like IFEX Philippines. He explained, “Sometimes you have a product, but it’s hard to get it out there. We have great products, and I’m sure IFEX Philippines will help connect them to the international market.”
For Chef Balingit, events like IFEX Philippines provide an invaluable platform for Filipino chefs to share their stories and talents globally. “Being at these trade shows in person is so different from just texting or emailing. To taste the products, feel them, and discuss experiences with others—it’s very valuable,” she noted. Balingit is also the author of Mayumu: Filipino American Desserts Remixed.
Upcoming IFEX Philippines 2025
The 18th edition of IFEX Philippines, the country’s largest international trade show for food, beverages, and ingredients, is set to take place from May 22-24, 2025, at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City. This event will serve as a platform to showcase Filipino culinary talents and products to the global market.
CITEM, the trade promotions arm of the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry, continues to support and promote Filipino chefs and products, helping them gain international recognition.
