Black Salt Partners with Dierbergs to Bring Modern Indian Cuisine to Grocery Stores

by Ella

Black Salt, a well-known name in St. Louis’ dining scene, has teamed up with Dierbergs to offer a fresh take on modern Indian cuisine in local grocery stores. The collaboration, which began last fall, launched its first set of products last week. This initiative is part of Black Salt’s broader mission to make Indian cuisine more accessible while maintaining quality and freshness.

Introducing the New Lineup

The new product line features 14 meal trays, including popular dishes like coconut shrimp and green jackfruit, along with six flavorful sauces such as tikka masala and butter chicken. These products aim to bring restaurant-quality flavors to consumers’ homes without the need for freezing or preservatives.

Owner Raj Pandey is excited about the new venture, calling it a groundbreaking development. “Dierbergs is the first locally to launch clean, fresh food with a longer shelf life, all without freezing, preservatives, or additives,” he explains. The meals are designed to offer a healthy balance of proteins and carbohydrates, with lower sodium compared to typical packaged products.

Innovation in Food Preservation

The meals are made using patented technology that preserves food freshness without the use of additives or preservatives. Pandey stresses that the goal is to move away from the ultra-processed image that packaged foods often have. “We want to ensure that we can package food without processing it. This is like a home-cooked meal with a restaurant-quality taste, tailored to the American palate,” he adds.

Expanding Availability

Currently, the products are available at over 100 Dierbergs locations, with plans for further expansion. Pandey is eager to extend the partnership to other grocery stores and collaborate with food manufacturers to improve the technology used in packaged foods. The ultimate goal is to reduce global food waste by leveraging their innovative packaging methods.

“Our company’s mission is to reduce global food wastage,” Pandey concludes, highlighting the potential of the new technology to change how packaged food is produced and consumed.
