The team behind popular restaurants Amrina, Pok Pok Po, and Bol is set to open Kitchen Rumors, a new restaurant that will put a creative spin on classic Texas dishes by infusing them with vibrant Indian flavors.
A New Venture by Kahani Social Group
Kahani Social Group, the hospitality group known for its elegant fine-dining restaurant Amrina in The Woodlands and the recently opened Indian fried chicken spot Pok Pok Po in Midtown, is ready to introduce another innovative concept to Houston. Executive chef Jassi Bindra reveals that Kitchen Rumors is slated to open in the second quarter of 2025 at 2310 Decatur Street, near Washington Avenue. The location was previously home to Christine Ha’s Vietnamese restaurant, Xin Chao, which closed in June 2024.
Redefining Indian Cuisine
Chef Bindra believes that the evolution of Indian cuisine is a positive and exciting development, stating, “It’s no longer stuck to its origin. It’s spread all over the world and has a strong influence on people.” He points out that Indian cuisine has gained global recognition, even earning Michelin stars, and now influences dining traditions across the globe.
A Unique Menu with Indian Twists on Local Favorites
While Bindra is still finalizing the menu, he promises that Kitchen Rumors will offer a reimagined dining experience, where every dish and drink tells a story. Expect familiar dishes with bold Indian twists, such as a Texas pecan pie infused with lemon curd and gulab jamun — a traditional Indian dessert made from milk solids and yogurt. Other dishes will include bison short rib nihari, hokkaido scallop ceviche with tamarind replacing citrus, pan-seared branzino paired with green herbs and vegetable salan, and steaks grilled using Indian cooking techniques.
A Welcoming and Vibrant Dining Atmosphere
Kitchen Rumors will offer dinner, weekday happy hour, and Sunday brunch, all served in a space designed to feel like home. The restaurant will feature a bright and colorful décor, with a pink and green palette and an open kitchen that allows guests to watch the action. For those who prefer outdoor seating, there will also be al fresco dining on the patio, along with ample parking.
A Busy Year for Kahani Social Group
The announcement of Kitchen Rumors comes after a busy few months for the Kahani Social Group. In addition to opening Pok Pok Po in December 2024 and the fast-casual Indian restaurant Bol in January 2025, the group continues to expand its presence in Houston’s dining scene. Chef Bindra has hinted that a future Indian tasting menu restaurant in the city could be on the horizon, though the recent openings remain a top priority for now.
