Yes Sushi to Open New High Street Location, Bringing Diverse Asian Cuisine to Ohio State Community

by Ella

Columbus is welcoming a new culinary gem this Friday—Yes Sushi is opening its new High Street location at 2016 N. High St., bringing a broader array of Asian food to the Ohio State community. The new location aims to introduce a fresh and diverse selection of Asian-inspired dishes that the campus has been missing, according to Chain Manager Kevin Oh.

Expanding the Asian Cuisine Landscape

While Ohio State University has some Asian food options, Oh noted that there’s a lack of variety. Yes Sushi is set to change that by offering a mix of traditional Japanese dishes alongside other Asian-inspired creations. “We want to show how Asian street food works,” Oh said.

The menu at Yes Sushi will feature classic sushi options, like the California roll and tuna avocado roll. It will also offer local specialties such as the Buckeye Roll (made with crab, avocado, and Buckeye Mayo) and the Lane Ave. Roll (featuring crab, cucumber, salmon, and avocado). In addition to sushi, the restaurant will serve a variety of dishes from other Asian cuisines, including Korean and Japanese-style bento meal boxes, poke, dumplings, and more.

Rapid Growth for Yes Sushi

Yes Sushi has quickly become a rising star in the Columbus dining scene. The High Street location will be the third storefront for the young and growing company. The first location, at 443 E. Main St. in Downtown Columbus, opened in July 2024, followed by a second location in Gahanna at 80 N. Hamilton Road.

According to Chain Operations Manager Eileen Lee, the rapid expansion is due in large part to the restaurant’s high-quality food at an affordable price. “I think we’ve been able to expand because the quality of food is really good for its price,” Lee said.

Engaging with the Community

Yes Sushi has also made a name for itself through community outreach. The restaurant’s weekly Sushi Day event at Nationwide Children’s Hospital has become a hit, where staff members serve sushi to doctors, nurses, patients, and visitors. “We sell more than 500 sushi rolls over there,” Oh said. The event allows Yes Sushi to change up its menu weekly, offering a rotating selection of fresh sushi to the hospital’s large community.

A Grab-and-Go Concept for Ohio State

Unlike many sit-down sushi restaurants, Yes Sushi’s Ohio State location is designed to cater to the busy student lifestyle. It will be a grab-and-go spot, providing students with quick and fresh meals between classes. “Students always need to go from class to class, so there’s not much time for them to grab their food,” said Oh.

In addition to the grab-and-go option, the High Street location will also feature a fresh menu from the kitchen for those who want to enjoy a made-to-order meal. Feedback from students has been overwhelmingly positive. “They’ve said it’s a totally new concept in the campus area,” said Chain Manager Alex Her. “So, if someone just wants to grab and go, they can pick it up. We also have the fresh menu from the kitchen, so they love that.”
