Basic Bird Back in Business Weeks After Car Crashed Into Restaurant

by Ella

Basic Bird, a beloved local restaurant, has officially reopened after a car crashed into its building, causing significant damage. The accident left the restaurant in need of major repairs, but now, weeks later, owner Joe Tripp is back in business, and his employees are quickly settling into their roles again. However, the journey to reopening wasn’t without its challenges.

The Damage and the Repairs

The crash caused extensive damage, especially to the floor design that was central to the restaurant’s signature aesthetic. Tripp explained that they had to rip up the entire floor and rebuild it to match the original, intricate print. This task, while necessary, took longer than anticipated. The restaurant also had to wait five weeks for a new window, as the previous one was destroyed in the crash.

Interestingly, the way the car hit the building provided an unexpected silver lining. Tripp noted that the damage allowed them to install a larger, more attractive window, ultimately enhancing the restaurant’s appearance.

However, just as the repairs were nearing completion, a blizzard hit, delaying the installation of the new window. Despite the setback, Tripp is grateful to be back up and running.

Community Support

Reflecting on the ordeal, Tripp shared his appreciation for the community’s support while Basic Bird was closed for repairs. “We’ve spent our whole lives feeding the community through our restaurants and through other people’s kitchens and charities,” he said. “It was nice to see a community come and support us while we were closed.”

Now that the restaurant is open once again, Tripp and his team are eager to continue serving their loyal customers and to create a positive impact on the local community.
