If you’ve been to the Pembury Tavern, you’ve probably seen Rachel Jones’ Ace Pizza, which was once a popular fixture there. Now, she has her own shop, just off Victoria Park.
Jones developed her own style of pizza, now known as ‘London-style pizza’. It’s designed to “have the chewiness and char of a Neapolitan dough, with the structure and foldability of a New York slice”. Inspired by her trips to her aunt’s house in Italy, she originally launched Capish? at KERB before partnering with Ace.
As for what’s on the new menu, her pizzas are aged for 48 hours and with a traditional Margherita pizza, you can expect:
Honey Pie – milk chocolate, spicy salami, fennel seeds, chili peppers and chili honey
Clapton Cowboy – a vegan pizza topped with plant-based Texas “beef”, jalapenos, pickled pink onions and chipotle ranch sauce.
Vodka Margarita – vodka sauce, homemade pesto, gran Moravia (optional pepperoni)
These will be paired with pizza sandwiches, slow-cooked Dexter beef meatballs with tomato sauce and Caesar salad. There will also be soft-serve ice cream desserts on the menu, with different flavours and toppings. Drinks include a chilli honey margarita, with beer provided by Five Points Brewery.
As for the location, it replaces the Fish House on Lauriston Road, and the new look will apparently pay homage to 80s nostalgia, aiming to combine “mid-century modern style with a classic disco diner”. We imagine it will be a big hit with locals and parkgoers alike.
