Earth’s inhabitants will have the chance to enjoy a celestial spectacle: a total lunar eclipse. Our planet will be directly between the sun and the moon, causing the moon to be obscured by Earth’s shadow. Just like last year’s eclipse, brands are readying exciting promotions themed around the event, but Capri Sun is trying something new with the launch of Moon Punch, the company’s first drink pouch to feature a glow-in-the-dark design.
Moon Punch is available now for a limited time at Amazon, Walmart, Target, Kroger, and other major retailers nationwide while supplies last. According to a Capri Sun press release, the juice is “cosmic cherry flavored,” and the pouches come in eight different designs, each corresponding to a different phase of the moon. (Although the “new moon” phase means the Earth-facing side of the moon isn’t illuminated, rest assured that the new moon Capri Sun pouches still contain glow-in-the-dark elements.
Besides teaching kids about the phases of the moon, the promotion also has the nifty idea of getting kids outdoors with the drink pouches. Back in the 90s, Capri Sun drink pouches were designed to feature all sorts of extreme outdoor scenes—surfing, rollerblading, you name it—but now they’re more likely to be found in living rooms and elementary school cafeterias.
“We’re committed to creating moments of fun and exploration that help kids unleash their most energetic energy with every sip,” said Jessica Barker, senior brand manager of brand communications for Capri Sun.
Glow-in-the-dark snacks may be an emerging trend. Earlier this month, Mondelēz International launched Sour Patch Kids Glow Ups, which fluoresce under a black light thanks to unflavored turmeric extract. While millennials have long recognized that making glow-in-the-dark food is as easy as chewing a Wint-O-Green mint in the dark to create sparks, enjoying a bag of Capri Sun Moon Punch seems to be a little more tooth-friendly.
