Jason Atherton shuts down original Pollen Street Social site Mary’s

by Ella

This time last year, Jason Atherton announced the closure of his then flagship restaurant, Pollen Street Social. A few months later, in August, the restaurant underwent a minor refurbishment and was replaced by grill restaurant Mary’s.

Earlier this year, plans had been made to completely revamp the site and fully reopen, but this never came to fruition. Now, in a notice sent to everyone who had a reservation at Mary’s, the restaurant has announced its closure and the site has been acquired by the Motcombs Restaurant Group, which plans to rebrand the site as Motcombs Tavern. This means they now have a central London restaurant to replace the now closed Belgravia branch.

“Mary’s was well-received by our customers and we were fortunate to have received such favorable reviews from Grace Dent and Tom Parker-Bowles,” Jason said of the decision. “However, we have decided it is time to let go of this much-loved restaurant and accept the offer from Motcombs Restaurants to focus on the next chapter of The Social Company.”

One element of Mary’s has been retained, though. The Blind Pig, Atherton’s cocktail bar (previously located in the Social Eating House), has moved to the large bar space upstairs at Mary’s.
