There’s a new pub in Covent Garden, but it’s no ordinary pub. It’s a little microcosm of a Cornish town, themed after the current production of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at the Ambassador Theatre.
The Pickled Crab is a bespoke Cornish pub located on the street outside the theatre, based on the fictional pub on the Cornish coast where Benjamin “met the only woman he would ever fall in love with”.
The pub will be open to the public before the show (and during intermission), and the food they serve is all Cornish. As well as Cornish Orchard Cider, there’s Proper Job draught beer, Jolly’s soft drinks and Cornish scones and pasties.
The fishing nets, port rules signs and beach hut vibe really do fit the scene. We applaud the theatre’s marketing team for their creativity, and although anyone with a ticket to the play can get in, we just wonder if it’s open to the public too.
