Singapore-based Indonesian restaurant Pagi Sore is taking advantage of the ongoing US tariff war with its own tariff plan. The restaurant posted on Instagram last week that customers can enjoy a 10% discount on takeaway and pickup orders in April using the coupon code “TARIFF10”.
“We hear the financial markets talking about options, and luckily we have a lot of options on our menu,” the caption reads. Pagi Sore noted that the promotion is not financial advice.
US President Donald Trump said a 10% base tariff would be imposed on all goods imported into the United States, including Singapore, The Business Times reported last week.
In an interview with MARKETING-INTERACTIVE, Park Tan, chef and owner of Pagi Sore, said the restaurant’s goal for 2025 is to increase takeaway sales, so the 10% tariff fits in well with that goal. “If our tariffs were as high as 34%, I probably wouldn’t be doing this,” he added.
In addition to the current 10% promotion, Pagi Sore is also offering special discount codes for first-time customers. Therefore, the tariff promotion is an additional incentive specifically for repeat customers.
In addition, Tan said that the current plan is to continue the promotion until the end of April, but, he said, “We all know that Trump intends to be ‘very nice’, so who knows what materials he will provide me in May.”
