Motcombs Tavern Takes Over Pollen Street

by Ella

Last year saw quite a bit of upheaval on Pollen Street. First, Jason Atherton announced that he was turning his Michelin-starred flagship restaurant into burger bar Mary’s. The restaurant opened on schedule with the promise of a full refurbishment this spring. The refurbishment never came to fruition, but Atherton ended up closing the restaurant for good, selling it to another restaurant group, Motcombs.

Motcombs itself has had a busy year. Just before Christmas, they opened their first restaurant in 42 years in St John’s Wood. Two months ago, they suddenly closed their original location in Belgravia, somewhat shocking regulars. At the time, they promised that they were looking for a new location in central London, and now they have finally found it on Pollen Street.

The new all-day restaurant, called Motcombs Tavern, is said to “draw on the spirit of historic pubs in London and New York”. The menu will be a mix of British and international dishes, including “dry-aged on site” Scottish beef, lobster, and Motcombs classics such as schnitzel and vodka penne.

There will be a separate bar offering a variety of drinks, from cocktails and wine to a carefully poured pint of Guinness.

We haven’t seen the full menu yet, nor have we heard much about their plans for the space itself, but we’ll keep you posted.
