With the weather at least temporarily fine, the barbecue season may be back. So Harley’s, a promising new butcher shop opening in Hampstead, is worth keeping an eye on. Partly because the team behind the shop are also responsible for Ibai, a restaurant in Smithfield known for its delicious steaks.
The team also run meat distributor Txuleta, which supplies some of London’s top restaurants. They’ve teamed up with experienced butcher Oliver Harley (hence the name) to run the new shop, who worked at the original Provenance Chelsea shop and knows a thing or two about butchery.
At Harley’s you’ll find a lot of the meat that usually goes straight to top London restaurants like Brat, especially their own imported Galician Blonde Aged. You’ll also see it on the menus of Ibai, Lurra and several other top steakhouses. The shop also sells Longhorn, Banded Galloway, Black Angus, Blue Grey and retired dairy cows, all from their own herds in Buckinghamshire, Wales and Norfolk. So the beef must be really good.
Their burger is also noteworthy, as it was named the “National Burger Champion Burger” by Whole Beast, meaning it was voted the best burger of the decade. If you want to step up your burger game, there’s also a Galician Blonde Wagyu Burger and an Iberian Iberico Burger.
If you’re not too keen on cooking, they also offer free-range rotisserie chicken for takeout. This rotisserie chicken is slow-cooked using Ibai’s chef Richard Foster’s secret recipe and drizzled with a special gravy. You can also buy this rotisserie chicken from the butcher shop to make into a Caesar salad or sandwich.
So if you want to try to replicate your favorite restaurant dishes at home, or just want to have an unforgettable barbecue, this sounds like a good place to buy your meat.
