Carlsberg Sweden marks sustainability milestone with expanded electric freight partnership and launch of new fully renewable alcohol-free beer.
Carlsberg Sverige aims to electrify up to 40% of its transport by the end of 2025, thanks to an expanded partnership with Swedish freight technology company Einride. To celebrate this goal, Carlsberg has launched a limited edition alcohol-free “electric beer” – brewed, produced and transported with 100% renewable energy.
The initiative builds on the electrification of heavy goods transport that Carlsberg Sverige pioneered in 2022. Now, with the addition of 11 electric trucks operating in southern and western Sweden, the company is significantly increasing its commitment to sustainable logistics.
Einride’s system combines electric vehicles with smart charging infrastructure and an AI operating platform. The setup will enable Carlsberg Sweden to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2,460 tonnes of CO2 per year, a 93% reduction compared to diesel.
Peter Hammarstedt, CEO of Carlsberg Sweden, commented:
We are excited about our partnership with Einride and the progress we are making together in sustainable logistics. At Carlsberg Sweden, we are always committed to taking concrete steps towards a more sustainable business, and introducing more electric vehicles in our transport chain is one example. We hope that this will spark attention to the importance of sustainable and smart logistics and inspire other industry players to take action in their field.
Electric beer launch
To celebrate this milestone, Carlsberg Sweden has launched a non-alcoholic “electric beer” that not only showcases the green brewing process, but also tells the story of the beer in its packaging. A QR code is attached to each can, providing real-time access to the brewing process and data on the beer’s low-emission journey in cities such as Malmö, Falkenberg and Gothenburg.
Linnéa Kornehed Falck, Founder and Vice President of Einride, added:
This is not just about sustainability, it’s about pushing the boundaries of transport technology, and electric propulsion is a step towards redefining the way products are transported. This event brings electric propulsion to life and shows the endless possibilities of where tradition meets innovation.
Since 2022, Carlsberg Sweden has driven more than 340,000 electric kilometers, equivalent to eight times around the earth. The project is part of Carlsberg Group’s ambitious goal of achieving a net zero carbon footprint by 2040.
